Simon Cowell has spoken about his surprise and annoyance on Liam Payne leaving his record label. On hoping to sign Niall in the coming weeks and Louis is about to launch a new girl band.
Liam in a shock move last week signed with Universal label Capitol.
Simon told The Sun: “It is a bit annoying if I am honest with you – mainly because it is a another label who has now got your artist who you worked with for so many years."
Simon went on to say: “We had spoken a lot, him and I, about what he wanted to do next.
"And I am guessing this because I haven’t spoken to Liam, but I guess he read about Harry’s deal and thought we weren’t interested.
“My impression was that he wasn’t in any hurry to make a record because he discussed this last year.
"He was more into songwriting and I was teasing him saying ‘if you come up with a great song Liam make sure it is for you and don’t give it away. When you’re ready, I am’.
“So I was a bit surprised. You have to remember with Liam I auditioned him when he was 14 or 15 years old.
"He nearly made it as a solo artist, then he came back and ends up in One Direction.
“So of course, there is a part of you that goes ‘maybe we should have had the conversation’. That may be my fault but it has happened.
Simon isn't planning for the same thing to happen to Niall Horan. It appears Syco is weeks away from signing him as a solo artist.
Simon said: “I like Niall a lot, have always got on with him, he is a great kid. I am confident he will sign with Syco.”
Harry has signed to an American branch of Sony - Columbia Records, so stays within the Sony family.
Simon said: “I had a fantastic conversation with him after he signed his new contract. He was very sweet, he was appreciative of what we did. And that goes a long way. It is a character trait.”
Louis is working with Simon's label Syco and they hope to launch an exciting new girl band shortly.
“Louis has just signed a deal with us as an imprint of a record label. He has a new group who are incredible. A girl band."
“We heard the band last night, we are going to see them in rehearsals next week. They are unbelievably good. I think he has got a real knack for this.”
“They were all out of contract when it ended so apart from Zayn who was under an existing option no one else was under contract.
“They didn’t have to do anything with me and that, in a way, was what I wanted it to be because I wanted to work with people who want to work with us.
“My point is that I have always left the decisions up to them and they have made pretty good decisions and so I trust them.”
It sounds like exciting things are going to happen for the boys as they embark on their solo careers. We wish them all the best in their chosen paths.
